Summary

A talented Hollywood starlet and a reclusive A-lister enter into a fake relationship 。 。 。 and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners。

Grey Brooks is on a mission to keep her career afloat now that the end of her long-running teen soap has her (unsuccessfully) pounding the pavement again。 With a life-changing role on the line, she’s finally desperate enough to agree to her publicist’s scheme 。 。 。 faking a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons。

Ethan Atkins just wants to be left alone。 Between his high-profile divorce, his struggles with drinking, and his grief over the death of his longtime creative partner and best friend, he’s slowly let himself fade into the background。 But if he ever wants to produce the last movie he and his partner wrote together, Ethan needs to clean up his reputation and step back into the spotlight。 A gossip-inducing affair with a gorgeous actress might be just the ticket, even if it’s the last thing he wants to do。

Though their juicy public relationship is less than perfect behind the scenes, it doesn’t take long before Grey and Ethan’s sizzling chemistry starts to feel like more than just an act。 But after decades in a ruthless industry that requires bulletproof emotional armor to survive, are they too used to faking it to open themselves up to the real thing?

With the subject matter and blurb, you might think this is a rom-com。 And there are some elements of one。 But there are deeper subjects as well, such as grief and alcoholism。 That doesn't mean that the story isn't enjoyable, because I very much enjoyed it。 With the subject matter and blurb, you might think this is a rom-com。 And there are some elements of one。 But there are deeper subjects as well, such as grief and alcoholism。 That doesn't mean that the story isn't enjoyable, because I very much enjoyed it。 。。。more

An entertaining book an a contractual dating set up between two Hollywood actors。 The book focuses on their ups and downs of living in the spotlight while the male lead, Ethan, faces an alcohol addiction。A book that hooked me from the start and provided lots of entertainment!

This book deals with alcoholism, emotional trauma, depression, and so many other topics。 Please proceed with caution。 。。。more

This book in 3 words: Delightful。 Sexy。 Insightful。Ava Wilder coming in with a strong read of the year contender! I had to force myself to close it and get some sleep。 I recommend this one for anyone looking for a contemporary romance that strays from the most common plots and twists。 。。。more

This was a good book, however I read this book expecting a light cheesy rom com but this book is heartbreaking! As much as there is fake dating involved, that is not the point of the book, it literally takes a turn! This is darker than indicated by the title, cover, and blurb。 Angst, fighting of personal demons, painful history, addiction。 It’s a very good read, but not very lighthearted, so go into it knowing that you won’t be getting a rom-com。 I mean, I wasn’t crying my eyes out by any means, I just wasn’t smiling and laughing。 I usually insist on humor to offset darkness, but I still liked this book anyway, so that should tell you something。 It might not be for everyone。 The fake-relationship thing (not This is darker than indicated by the title, cover, and blurb。 Angst, fighting of personal demons, painful history, addiction。 It’s a very good read, but not very lighthearted, so go into it knowing that you won’t be getting a rom-com。 I mean, I wasn’t crying my eyes out by any means, I just wasn’t smiling and laughing。 I usually insist on humor to offset darkness, but I still liked this book anyway, so that should tell you something。 It might not be for everyone。 The fake-relationship thing (not one of my favorite tropes) is handled well。 。。。more

I was excited about the fake relationship trope of this book, but ended up not really connecting with any of the characters and their stories。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I LOVED the first half of the book! Easily a five star read。 But the second half? Way too drawn out。

Cassidy

me picturing myself with chris evans while reading this book was so cute but it lowkey got a little boring in the middle (after their palm springs getaway)

Darcy

The pacing was so weird why did it immediately go from steamy romance to addiction piece? Also characters were pretty boring

Sooo it seems this book has divided opinions but I actually really liked it。 Fake dating is a favourite trope of mine and seeing it in a Hollywood setting seemed really believable to me so I completely bought into it。 I think that’s why their chemistry did read so well for me。 What I liked was that this book also tackled some of the tougher issues that can come with fame, and the grief the main male character struggles with。 Overall this was a pleasant surprise for me!

No, just no! Both of the characters are super whiny and annoying and vey unlikable,| chose to DNF when there were around 50 pages left。 They don't have a redemption arc instead they make the same mistakes again in different ways。 No, just no! The headliner should read “ this is not a rom-com”。 I was not expecting such a deep book going into this。 It was still really good。 Just surprised me。

This was a toxic sh*tshow。

3。5 stars rounded down to 3 stars。 When I first started it, it reminded me a lot of the book “When Stars Collide” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, which I recently read。 Fast little light read——not a huge fan of Ethan, but what can you do, you can’t love them all。

I’m glad I went into this reading some reviews that it wasn’t a lighthearted romcom and because of that I went in knowing what to expect。 Honestly this was exactly what I was in the mood to read。 Angsty push and pull romance between two actors。 Wilder’s characters instantly drew me in with their witty banter and great cast of side characters。

This was a great read。 However, there were too many breakups!!!! I understand why the breakups occurred, but I was so enthralled by Ethan and Grey’s romance that I didn’t want to see it end。 I also wish we could have seen more of their final reconnection。 Their reconnection was a great way to end the book, especially as it closed out Ethan’s addiction storyline。 I appreciated the manner in which Ethan’s addiction was written, as it is a complex topic that was addressed in a productive and meanin This was a great read。 However, there were too many breakups!!!! 4。5 This got off to an awesome start and had me flying through the pages。 I did run out of steam towards the end。。。 It got a little heavier than I was expecting based on the cover and premise。 Still, never considered DNFing and will definitely read more from this author as she writes it!
